This article was inspired by an earlier study published by Lauren Dogaer in JEA 106 (2020), 205–214, in which she traced the history of the Festival of the Valley into the Ptolemaic Period, using a variety of sources, both textual and non-textual. The present article seeks to complement her work by reviewing the evidence collected by her, in some cases suggesting alternative interpretations. It also scrutinises additional evidence with a view to ascertaining whether the Festival continued to be celebrated during the Roman Period.
